I Mastodon sono un gruppo musicale heavy metal/post-hardcore fondato ad Atlanta, Georgia, nel 2000.
C'è stato molto dibattito riguardo alla loro classificazione in un genere ben preciso, poiché nelle loro canzoni si possono scorgere elementi sludge metal, in stile Neurosis e Melvins e influenze hardcore punk, riff pesanti di chitarra (spesso molto complessi e tecnici), batteria con influenze jazz, lunghi intermezzi strumentali melodici, aspetti che rimandano quindi al progressive.
